In Europe, Nuki (link) is already something of a household name. According to the company, the Austrian smart home startup has delivered smart locks to some 800,000 customers. Now, the Graz-based brand is setting its sights on the U.S. market: A version designed for deadbolt locks is now available on Amazon, with a dedicated web store set to launch in fall 2025.
U.S. Version of the Nuki Smart Lock Pro
The new lock actuator (link) closely resembles Nuki’s fifth-generation Smart Lock Pro, currently sold in Europe. Like its European counterpart, the U.S. model installs on the inside of the door, mounting over an existing single-cylinder deadbolt. Under the hood, it features the same brushless motor and supports three wireless protocols: Wi-Fi, Thread, and Bluetooth. That means users can control it locally via smartphone or keypad (Bluetooth), integrate it into their home network for remote access (Wi-Fi), or connect it to Matter-based ecosystems (Thread).

Power is provided by a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It charges directly on the door via a magnetic USB cable. Nuki claims up to 12 months of battery life when using Bluetooth or Thread; Wi-Fi usage, which consumes more power, cuts that estimate roughly in half.
Nuki Premium: Remote Access Now a Subscription Feature
One key difference from the European product lineup: Nuki is introducing a new subscription model in the U.S. market. For $5.90 per month, users can enable remote access and integrate their lock with rental platforms like Airbnb, Guesty, and Lodgify. The “Nuki Premium” plan also includes real-time notifications and a free two-year replacement service in case of technical issues.
With this move, Nuki is bundling features that have traditionally been free or one-time purchases for European customers – like remote access – with others that were already paid extras, such as Airbnb integration. For U.S. customers, it means that ongoing subscription fees are now required if you want to control your lock from afar using Nuki’s app.

Free Lifetime Premium for Early Registrants
There’s one exception: U.S. buyers who register their device with Nuki and activate the Premium plan by the end of September will receive lifetime access to the service at no charge. For customers in Europe, nothing will change. When asked, Nuki stated that “there are no plans to introduce a subscription model in existing markets.”
