Nuki Smart Lock Pro during installation

Two new smart locks with Matter from Nuki

Development at Nuki is apparently running at high speed. The Austrian manufacturer recently launched its Smart Lock Ultra. Now, the Nuki Pro follows in the same form factor (link), but without a special cylinder. While the Ultra requires the lock cylinder to be replaced – and comes with its own copy – the Pro sits on the inside on the key and uses the existing locking mechanism. This reduces the installation effort and is convenient for users who cannot simply replace their lock, for example because of a master key system.

Nuki Pro: compact and easy to retrofit

The head of the new smart lock contains the same brushless motor as the Nuki Ultra. However, it is 1.2 centimetres longer to make room for standard keys. Nevertheless, the fight for every millimeter demanded compromises from the developers: The key may stick out of the lock by a maximum of 37 millimeters. This is sufficient for most installations. If the key protrudes more than that, it has to be filed down at the rear end. Or you can switch to a Nuki model in the classic design. This has more space for the key.

The Pro has inherited functions such as three different locking speeds, the integrated lithium-ion battery with magnetic charging connection and Matter support via Thread protocol from its sister model. Read more about the features in the news article about the Nuki Ultra. The new Smart Lock Pro is available in Europe at a price of 269 euros. As with previous product launches by the Austrian company, there will be an upgrade program for existing customers.

Nuki also wants to support the upcoming CSA standard for locking systems: Aliro (link) is a manufacturer-independent solution that turns mobile devices such as smartphones and smartwatches into digital keys. Jürgen Pansy, Chief Innovation Officer and co-founder of the company, explains: “We plan to launch an Aliro-enabled accessory with NFC support that is compatible with all Matter smart locks from Nuki as soon as the standard is released.”

Nuki Go: entry-level model with upgrade option

At the same time, Nuki is introducing another model. The Nuki Go replaces the previous 4th generation of the smart lock. It has the traditional design with a round head and hanging battery compartment, but does away with the stainless steel look. At a starting price of 149 euros, it offers Wi-Fi and Matter over Thread – with all the local operating options and functions familiar from Nuki. Remote access using the Nuki app via Thread or Wi-Fi can be activated with an additional one-off purchase for 49 euros. A rechargeable battery pack, as a replacement for the standard power supply using AA batteries, is available as an accessory for the same price.
