New KNX server with Matter Bridge from Hager

At the Eltefa electrical trade fair in southern Germany, Hager presented its new KNX server from the Domovea series (link). The top-hat rail device for installation in the electrical distribution board traditionally enables the control and visualization of professional KNX installations. It also plays a role in the manufacturer’s energy management system. The latest generation adds the function of a Matter Bridge. So it connects sensors and actuators from the KNX side to Matter ecosystems such as Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings. Linked KNX components can then be controlled via the apps of the respective platforms – and their associated voice assistants.

Bridge function for KNX actuators and sensors

To start with, the Domovea server supports the most important KNX devices and functions:

  • Light (on/off, dimming)
  • Switchable sockets (on/off)
  • Roller shutters and blinds (open/close)
  • Thermostats (ATC, virtual thermostat)
  • Sensors (temperature, humidity, binary input)

The company is working on adding further product categories in the future and expanding the range of functions – as far as the device types in the Matter standard will allow.

To start the pairing process, the desired KNX components are first selected in the Hager app of the Domovea server (link). The app then generates a QR code and displays it on the screen. By scanning this code with the app of a Matter ecosystem, both sides establish an encrypted connection. The KNX products are automatically forwarded to the Matter Fabric of the platform used, where they await further use.

Two model variants: Domovea basic and plus

As before, Hager also offers the new server generation in two versions. Domovea basic with model designation TJAS671 is intended for simpler automation functions in single and multifamily homes. The number of possible IP cameras is limited to five and access to the KNX ETS programming interface is only possible locally on the network.

Domovea plus (TJAS471) is also suitable for sophisticated residential and commercial properties – with remote maintenance, complex automation and up to 50 cameras. However, there are no differences in terms of Matter: the bridge function in both versions can forward up to 128 KNX devices to connected platforms. The new models will be available from April 1, 2025.
