British manufacturer Louvolite (link) has announced Matter-enabled window blinds. The company from Hyde near Manchester, which produces customized blinds for interior designers, will also be offering some of its models with Thread motors in future. Specifically named are the “One Touch” tubular motors of the 2000 ACM, 2000 DCM and 3000 DCM series (link). The letter M in the model designation stands for Matter in these cases.
Remote controllable thanks to Matter over Thread
When using such drives, the otherwise necessary Louvolite home hub, which establishes a connection to external systems such as Amazon Alexa or Control 4, is no longer required. The company’s own app also becomes redundant. Instead, a Matter Controller with an integrated Thread Border Router is being used, such as the HomePod mini from Apple. Based on experience, there may be differences in the range of functions because the options for control and automation depend on the Matter platform utilized. The device manufacturer has no influence on that.

With its new drives, Louvolite joins the growing list of manufacturers who are adding shading solutions with Matter over Thread to their product range. These include vendors such as Coulisse, Eve Systems and SmartWings. A list can be found in the overview of Matter-compatible products.
