With its latest generation OLED models, manufacturer LG introduces a new operating system on its TVs. The so-called webOS 22 brings support for Matter along with a number of other features. A corresponding software update is planned for the second half of 2022. Much earlier wouldn’t make sense either, since sufficient products in the new smart home standard will only be available from summer onwards.
The update is about to come to all devices of the 2022 model year, to the OLED series A2, B2, C2, G2 and Z2 as well as to Mini-LED TVs, called QNED in the company’s jargon. After updating the webOS, the Korean manufacturer’s TVs can serve as controllers. This is the official name of control devices in a Matter installation. In addition to smart speakers, smarthome control centers and smartphones, networked TVs can also be used for this purpose. Samsung has already announced similar plans at its developer conference in October 2021. This makes LG the second major TV manufacturer to officially commit to Matter.
