“Google, is the skylight still open?” – “Siri, close the roof hatch”. Plus: weather sensors that react automatically when it rains and motorized pleated blinds that protect against strong sunlight. There are few areas where the benefits of automation in the smart home are more obvious as with electric roof windows. Belgian manufacturer Skylux (link) uses the Matter standard for this. The family-run company – which specializes in flat roof windows and skylights – offers its iWindow (link) with the still new networking technology.
The iWindow from Skylight uses Thread radio
In addition to the in-house DuoControl wireless solution (433 MHz), the smart roof windows have a Thread module that establishes contact with Matter platforms at home via a Border Router. The manufacturer specifically mentions Apple Home, Google Home and SmartThings. Border Routers from Amazon such as the Echo 4 are not yet compatible, Skylux states on its website.

The electric top-hung windows with double and triple glazing are available to order in many formats. They are also produced in oversizes of 100 × 300 centimeters and with an extensive range of accessories. Skylux integrates LED lighting on request. The interior sun protection, which is available as an accessory, moves electrically in front of the window and can also be controlled via Matter – as can the optional fly screen. Depending on the model and version, the delivery time is between one week and two months.
