The Nuki Smart Module is now available. The smart lock specialist from Graz, Austria, first presented the electronic module as a prototype in March 2026. According to the company, it has now entered mass production as planned. The module brings the locking technology of Nuki’s fifth-generation Smart Locks directly into the door itself, with no visible hardware. A new option goes beyond the originally announced factory installation: Existing doors equipped with electromechanical locks can now be retrofitted with the technology as well.
When Nuki first introduced the Smart Module, its focus was primarily on new doors. The electronic module is integrated directly into the door and controls its electromechanical locking mechanism. A permanent power connection eliminates the need to replace batteries or recharge an internal battery. Read more in the report on the original announcement in March.
Retrofitting Existing Doors Through Professionals
The Austrian manufacturer is now offering a second installation option for existing doors: The Smart Module can be installed in a standard electrical junction box and connected to an existing electromechanical door lock. According to Nuki, it supports basic motorized locks as well as so-called A-openers. These are motorized drives for multipoint locking systems. When unlocking, they retract the latch and, where applicable, other locking elements, allowing the door to open. The door automatically locks again when closed.
Installation is handled by trained Nuki Pro Partners, such as electricians and systems integrators. The company describes the wiring setup as straightforward, allowing existing doors to be upgraded without adding visible hardware. The Smart Module will be available as a fully integrated solution through leading door manufacturers. As a standalone product, it will also be offered through authorized Nuki Pro partners and in the manufacturer’s own online store, where it is priced at 359 euros.

Matter and Familiar Nuki Features
In terms of functionality, the module is based on the fifth generation of Nuki Smart Locks. Features include automatic unlocking when approaching the door (Auto Unlock), remote access, and the ability to manage digital access permissions. Wireless accessories such as the Nuki Keypad are also compatible with the Smart Module. Depending on the configuration, users can unlock the door using NFC (Tap to Unlock), a fingerprint, or a numeric code.
Via Matter, the system can connect to platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. The partnership with REHAU Window Solutions, announced back in March, provides one example of how door manufacturers can integrate the technology into their production processes.
Nuki attributes its move toward fully integrated access solutions to growing demand in new construction and renovation projects. According to the manufacturer, only four percent of European households currently use a digital key. The company’s own market forecast predicts that the new construction segment will quadruple by 2036, reaching more than one million smart doors per year.
