WiserPort: Matter Bridge for Feller’s Smart Home System

Wiser by Feller is joining the Matter ecosystem. Swiss manufacturer Atios has introduced WiserPort (link), a Matter Bridge for Feller’s smart home system (link). This means that anyone in Switzerland who has automated their home with Wiser by Feller can now integrate it into Matter systems such as Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, or Home Assistant. This opens up a wide range of new possibilities, from voice control and advanced automations to integration with products that Feller does not support itself.

What Is Wiser by Feller?

Feller (link) is a Swiss manufacturer of switches and outlets that is part of the French group Schneider Electric. With Wiser by Feller, the company, based in Horgen on Lake Zurich, offers its own smart home system. It controls lighting, shading, and heating via wall switches and the Wiser Home app – not to be confused with Schneider Electric’s Wiser, which has a nearly identical name and is based on the Zigbee wireless standard. Feller’s devices communicate over an additional wire (K+), the manufacturer’s proprietary fieldbus. The system’s own Wiser WLAN Gateway connects the installation to the home network.

What Does WiserPort Do?

Atios’s DIN-rail module operates alongside the Wiser WLAN Gateway on the same network. It reads the installation through an open API provided by Feller, so the existing gateway remains in operation. Like other Matter bridges, WiserPort makes the connected devices available to Matter ecosystems. They appear on connected platforms just like certified Matter products, alongside devices from other manufacturers and even a Wi-Fi room thermostat from Feller that supports the standard natively. Scenes, automations, and multi-user access are then managed through the respective platform. The following devices are supported:

  • Lighting: on/off, dimmable, white temperature, and color
  • Switches and outlets
  • Venetian blinds, roller shades, and curtains, with or without position and slat-angle control
  • Thermostats

As with other Atios products, the WiserPort is also designed to act as a bridge for KNX and DALI products. This is due to be released as a free software update. However, the manufacturer has not yet provided any details regarding the exact date of this firmware update.

Setup and Technical Specifications

WiserPort connects to the network via Ethernet or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Power can be supplied directly through the Ethernet cable using Power over Ethernet (PoE) or via a power adapter providing 20 to 30 volts DC. Pairing with the Wiser Gateway requires just the press of a button. Users then scan the Matter QR code displayed in WiserPort’s web interface. The interface also allows them to manage connected devices, individually enable or revoke Matter access, and control which devices are shared with the Matter ecosystem. An online demo of the web interface is available (link).
