Wago (link), a leading supplier of electrical engineering products, supports the Matter standard. The company, based in Minden in northwestern Germany, is well known to electricians and engineers around the world. Its name has become synonymous with spring-cage terminals – much like “Scotch Tape” for adhesive tape and “Kleenex” for paper tissues.
The manufacturer’s connection terminals, often referred to as Wago terminals, use pre-tensioned steel springs instead of screws to secure the wire. This saves on tools and assembly time. In addition, there is no need for subsequent retightening because the clamping force automatically adjusts to the conductor cross-section and withstands vibrations.
Two Variants to Choose From: Wi-Fi and Thread
The same spring-loaded clamping technology is now also used in wireless modules, which Wago is presenting for the first time at the Light + Building trade fair in Frankfurt am Main. They switch, control, or dim connected loads from the installation box. The modules were developed for use in Matter ecosystems, making them universally applicable: After installation, they can be integrated directly into platforms that support the Matter standard.

The Wago Home Automation product family (link) initially comprises four actuators, each available in two versions: as a WLAN module with Matter over Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) and in a version with Matter over Thread for operation on Thread Border Routers.
- WAGO Home Relay (16 A) switches resistive loads of up to 16 amps (200 watts LED). This makes it suitable for all consumers that are connected to a household outlet.
- WAGO Home Relay (6 A) has two channels that together can achieve an output current of 6 amperes – intended for lighting circuits, smaller consumers, or as a pulse generator for control tasks in the smart home.
- WAGO Home Blind Control (3 A) is used for electronic blind control, for example in conjunction with a 2-gang pushbutton.
- WAGO Home Dimmer serves as an electronic brightness controller in the flush-mounted box.
Electrical Safety With VDE Certification Mark
All models are VDE-certified and bear the mark of the German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE, link). “I don’t know of any other manufacturer that offers flush-mounted actuators with this seal of approval,” explains Wago product manager Manfred Lehman in conversation with matter-smarthome. In addition, the products were developed in accordance with IEC standard 62443-4-1 for industrial control systems. Wago’s aim is not only to meet the highest standards of electrical quality and safety. These features also serve as a selling point compared to other Matter-enabled modules on the market.
The robust construction comes at the expense of a slightly larger housing: measuring 46 × 46 × 22 millimeters, the actuators are less compact than the current current Generation 4 from Shelly or the models from Sonoff. Their format is more similar to the Matter modules from Eltako, another German manufacturer with around 75 years of tradition.

Two Apps – for Tradespeople and Their Customers
Wago has developed two smartphone apps for commissioning. The first is used by tradespeople to prepare for installation (link), while the second allows the electrician’s customer to integrate the prepared Wago modules into the Matter ecosystem of their choice. Manfred Lehman reveals more about the process in the interview “Wago and Matter: We Want to Really Get Into This Market.”
WAGO Home Automation will make its world premiere from March 8 to 13 at Light + Building in Frankfurt am Main. The product range is scheduled to go on sale in German-speaking countries in May 2026. The switching modules and blind actuator will be available first, with the WAGO Home Dimmer following a little later: the manufacturer has announced a launch date of summer 2026.
