Flush-mounted actuators for Matter that are also an EnOcean Bridge. This is how the 64 series modules from Eltako (link) could be described in one sentence. The southern German company from Fellbach near Stuttgart just introduced the product line and has already launched the first one on the market: a universal dimming actuator with the type designation EUD62NPN-IPM. Others are to follow in the course of 2025, including two impulse switches – potential-free and non-potential-free – as well as a module for shading and a heating actuator. All models and their exact type designations are listed in our overview of Matter-compatible devices.
The history of the 64 series
The new products have been in development for several years. Eltako already presented a series called “64” at Light & Building 2020 – back then as HomeKit-certified Wi-Fi actuators. The highlight was that both wired wall switches and wireless switches with EnOcean radio could be connected to the switching, dimming and shading modules. For the most flexible possible control of lamps and shutters or blinds, even without a smartphone app or voice assistant.
But then Matter came along and the manufacturer decided to tackle a joint Matter certification instead of individual certifications for HomeKit, Alexa and Google. This and delays in the standard lengthened the process and resulted in rescheduling. The end result is now a completely redesigned product. Eltako took the opportunity to eliminate one point of criticism of its 62 series: the imposing format. With dimensions of 49 x 51 x 25 mm, the 62 series was pretty big in the installation box. The new generation is smaller and flatter (46 x 45 x 20 mm).
A completely new development
The models in the 64 series were developed for Matter from the outset and will also replace the IP actuators of the 62 series in this respect. This means that the universal dimming actuator EUD62NPN-IPM will remain the only Matter-compatible product within the 62 series. Its two siblings for switching and shading won’t be upgraded to the Matter standard. Their task will be taken over by the new, more compact 64 series.
As wireless actuators with “Matter over Wi-Fi”, the devices establish a connection to Matter platforms. Some restrictions still apply, as not all ecosystems accept a button as a control element yet. Google, for example, wants to support the Matter product category “Generic Switch” in the course of 2025.
Plug-on adapter with EnOcean radio
In their basic function, the actuators react to Matter commands or transmit signals from a push-button connected by cable to the platform. Alternatively, the push-button can also control the actuator directly, without a Matter connection. The behavior when the rocker is pressed can be set in the manufacturer’s app “Eltako Connect”.
What sets the 64 series apart from other Wi-Fi actuators is the bridge option. Each module can be upgraded with a plug-in base. The so-called EnOcean adapter EOA64 adds nine millimeters to the housing depth, resulting in a total of 46 x 45 x 29 millimeters. Its task: to equip the actuator with the EnOcean radio protocol and make it receptive to wireless extensions. Initially, only wireless push-buttons will be supported, but Eltako has promised other sensor categories such as window contacts, motion detectors and temperature sensing devices in the second half of 2025. And because the combi acts as a Matter Bridge, its data will also appear in a connected ecosystem.
According to the manufacturer, up to 30 wireless push-buttons can be used per module. This creates new possibilities for networking an existing building and equipping it with smart sensor technology without a lot of installation work. It is remarkable that this development comes from a medium-sized company in Germany. While others complain (not entirely unjustifiably) about how complicated and expensive Matter certification is, Eltako is launching products on the market that are certified multiple times – as actuators and as bridges.
