Smart plugs have become a staple in many smart homes, but when it comes to weatherproof models for outdoor use, the selection remains limited – especially if you’re looking for Matter-certified devices. TP-Link is now expanding its lineup with a new plug designed for the European market. The Tapo P410M (link) can be considered the EU counterpart to the company’s outdoor plugs that have already been available in the U.S. for some time.
Tapo P410M: Matter-Ready and Versatile
The black outdoor plug is rated IP54 for water resistance and built to handle temperatures ranging from –4°F to 122°F (–20°C to +50°C). With a maximum load of 16 amps or 3,680 watts, it’s powerful enough for energy-hungry devices in the garden, on the patio, or on the balcony. Thanks to Matter over Wi-Fi, it can not only be connected to the Tapo app via Wi-Fi but also to Matter systems such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings using the QR code provided.

Energy Monitoring and Safety Features
A key feature of the Tapo P410M is its built-in energy monitoring. It tracks power consumption and, according to TP-Link, can even detect the direction of energy flow – a useful addition for users with balcony solar panels who want to know whether power is being drawn or fed back into the grid. Certified for Matter 1.3, the smart plug should also be able to share its energy data with connected ecosystems, similar to TP-Link’s Tapo P110M for indoor use. This makes it a potential building block for Matter-based energy management.
Additional features include zero-crossing detection, which reduces wear on the switching relay; overload and overheating protection. These functions are designed to protect both connected devices and the plug’s internal electronics. The manufacturer expects the nickel-plated phosphor bronze contacts to offer high corrosion resistance, which should be particularly advantageous for outdoor use.
