Siegenia (link) is bringing its long-announced Smart Sensor for windows and sliding doors to market. Following its Matter-enabled window handle, the company now adds a classic contact sensor – also based on Matter over Thread. Both devices rely on the still-emerging smart home standard and use Thread as their wireless technology. Via a Border Router, they can be integrated into various ecosystems. The range of Matter-capable pltaforms spans from Amazon’s Alexa to open-source platforms like Home Assistant and SmartThings. A compatibility list on the manufacturer’s website details Matter Controllers that have been successfully tested with the sensor.

Flexible Installation Options
One of the sensor’s defining features is its range of installation methods. Siegenia aims to cover both new builds and retrofit scenarios in existing buildings. The preferred option is concealed installation within the window rebate. In this setup, the sensor is fully integrated into the frame and remains invisible from the outside. Power for wireless operation is supplied by an integrated CR2032 lithium coin cell battery.
Installation is easiest on windows equipped with fittings from Siegenia’s Titan series. In this case, the sensor simply slides into a pre-installed plastic holder. For other window sashes, alternative mounting options are available – provided there is sufficient space within the rebate.
- Slider: For window sashes with elongated holes and locking pins, a supplied slider with an integrated magnet is used. The sensor is attached inside the rebate using an adhesive pad.
- Plug-In Pin: If no pin is present, one can be retrofitted using an included plug-in pin. The magnet is integrated into this component, which is then adhered in place.
- Magnet: For windows without compatible hardware structures, the magnet can be positioned freely and attached with adhesive, while the sensor is aligned accordingly within the frame.

Surface Mounting as an Alternative
With its new sensor, Siegenia is also expanding a still limited market segment: concealed window contacts based on Matter. Comparable solutions have so far been introduced by Maco and Schüco.
If concealed installation is not feasible, the contact sensor can also be mounted on the surface. In that case, the sensor and magnet remain visible on the window sash and frame. For this purpose, the manufacturer offers a matching white plastic cover designed to conceal both components visually. The smart sensor from Siegenia is now available for order via the company’s online shop. It is already listed on Amazon in Germany, although it is not yet available for purchase there.
