The Austrian company Mayer & Co Beschläge – better known as Maco (link) – is expanding its range with a new generation of wireless sensors. The opening contacts from the Sense by Maco (link) series can be fully integrated into the frame. They are installed in the rebate area of windows or doors, making the sensors virtually invisible.
Easy to Retrofit Thanks to Matter Support
Thanks to support for Matter, the cross-brand smart home standard, the products can be integrated into systems like Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or SmartThings. This allows the status of windows and doors to be monitored not only via app, but also used in automations involving heating, lighting, or shading.
The wireless protocol Thread connects the battery-powered sensors to a compatible Border Router. Depending on the sensor model, power is supplied either by one AAA battery (1.5 V) or two CR2032 lithium coin cells (3 V). Maco estimates the battery life at around two years. In practice, actual battery life depends on several factors: the battery brand, the Matter platform used, and of course, how often doors and windows are opened.
Four Variants for Different Applications
The manufacturer offers four model variants that cover different installation situations – inward or outward-opening windows as well as lift and slide or front doors.
- Window Pro T&T is intended for classic tilt and turn windows with MACO Multi Matic (IQ) hardware – ideal for initial installation. Its compact design is engineered to fit into the hardware groove of all common profile geometries.
- Casement was developed for outward-opening windows with MACO Espags hardware. It is installed on the frame side and can be adapted to various window profiles using the enclosed adapter pieces.
- Universal is the retrofit all-purpose solution for components without Maco hardware. Three different mounting frames are available. As the first wireless sensor on the market of its kind, it is also designed to enable reliable, concealed monitoring of lift-and-slide doors.
- Door is the door specialist, detecting the status of various types of locks – whether manual or motorized. It supports cylinder locks, mechanical-automatic, and fully motorized locking systems. On handle-operated locks, it can detect whether the deadbolt has been engaged.
The new Maco sensors will be available from the beginning of June 2025 and will be sold as B2B products via the window and door industry. Relevant manufacturers and specialist companies can therefore install them in their end customer projects.
