Norway is not only speeding up when it comes to electromobility. Heat pumps and electricity-driven direct heating systems are also very popular with the inhabitants of the Scandinavian country. Mill Norway (link) is a pioneer in the field of electric panel heaters. The family business from Østerås near Oslo specializes in electric heaters that control and optimize their heat output using an intelligent algorithm.
Electronics ensure that the output is continuously adapted to the room temperature. It is also designed to save energy, for example through machine learning: the algorithm knows when it needs to start heating up in order to reach the desired temperature in good time. Appliances with Wi-Fi can be operated via an app and controlled via the Homey smart home platform.
Electric heater with Matter connection
For third-generation Glass panel heaters, there is now another option: the electric radiators can be connected to ecosystems such as Amazon Alexa, Apple Home and Google Home via the Matter protocol. This enables temperature control via voice assistant and automated routines. One small drawback: users have to make a decision. When integrated into a Matter system, the manufacturer’s app and its functions such as heating schedules or vacation mode are no longer available. These are only accessible if the radiator is connected to the Mill Norway cloud. According to the manufacturer, parallel operation is not possible.
