IoT Gateway for KNX: the Reverse Matter Bridge

So far, connecting professional KNX installations with the Matter standard has mostly gone in one direction: from KNX to Matter. A server or gateway in the distribution cabinet passes KNX products on to Matter systems, enabling features like voice control. 1Home (link), among other providers, offers such a solution.

The 1Home IoT Gateway – bringing Matter Devices into KNX

With its latest product, however, 1Home flips the script: the 1Home IoT Gateway (link) is designed to allow electricians to integrate up to 100 Matter devices into their KNX installations. These devices receive group addresses just like KNX products and can be configured using the official programming tool ETS (Engineering Tool Software).

This means Matter-certified devices such as robot vacuums, smart locks, and LED lamps can be connected to KNX switches, displays, and even visualization servers – without installers needing to change their workflow. Everything is handled within ETS. The IoT Gateway includes a KNX IP interface to establish the connection to a PC.

However, users will have to forgo voice control via Alexa, Google, Siri, and the like. Unlike the 1Home Server KNX, the IoT Gateway does not connect to those ecosystems. By definition, it is not a Matter Bridge, but rather a bridge for Matter devices in KNX. Sales start on April 25, 2025, with a 50 discount for the first 100 devices. After that, the price will gradually increase until the planned delivery in May 2025.
