Philips Hue and Wiz will support matter

The Philips Hue and Wiz wireless lighting systems are among the first products that will support the new smart home standard matter. Their manufacturer Signify announced this today in two press releases. The Hue Bridge v2 (pictured) is due to receive a free software update in the fourth quarter of 2021. After that, it will be fully compatible with smart home control centers and systems that use matter. The devices on the bridge will continue to use the Zigbee standard – which has the advantage that even lamps that are many years old can be used without restriction.

The situation is somewhat different with the Wiz WLAN lighting system. Here, the existing products cannot be updated so easily, which is why the Signify company is planning a new generation of devices. All new Wiz products that come onto the market from September 2021 are to be matter-capable. A software update later this year will then make them fit for the new standard. From the first half of 2022, all products in the Wiz range are to feature the matter logo on their packaging and be fully compatible.
