The manufacturer Ledvance is presenting new lamps, adapter plugs and wall switches under the Osram name. In a blog post published by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (link), Martin Braun, Sales Director B2C for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, explains: “We have a clear commitment to relying on Matter over Wi-Fi and significantly accelerating developments in the smart home sector”. As a first step, the company is launching 13 new items that support the manufacturer-independent standard, with 41 more scheduled to follow this summer.
Smart+ Gets the Osram Name Again
Ledvance has held a license to use the Osram (Europe) and Sylvania (USA, Canada) brands since the general lighting division was spun off from the Osram Group in 2016. In recent years, however, the Chinese manufacturer has used its own name for networked smart home products – supplemented by the suffix “Smart+”. The Osram brand is now being revived for new Matter products.
Wi-Fi Lamps, Smart Plugs, and Wall Switches
The new Matter over Wi-Fi lineup includes various light bulbs in multiple sizes and socket types (E14/E27). Also part of the range: indoor and outdoor smart plugs as well as two new in-wall switches. They make hard-wired lights switchable and can and can also be used as Matter-based remote controls for other smart devices. The single-channel version comes with a rocker switch, while the dual-channel model features two push buttons. An overview of the entire Matter range can be found on the Ledvance website (link).
