Schüco (link) ranks among the best-known brands in the German window manufacturing industry. However, the Schüco Group, headquartered in Bielefeld, operates internationally. It develops and markets system solutions for building envelopes – including windows, doors, facades, ventilation, security, and sun protection systems. The company’s first Matter product has now been developed within its PVC windows division – Schüco Polymer Technologies KG.

Opening Sensor with Matter over Thread
The Schüco Wireless Sensor (link) is designed for concealed installation. It can be integrated into all Schüco windows equipped with VarioTec Advanced hardware, as well as into the manufacturer’s front doors that feature a switching contact. Alternatively, other common frame profiles with Euro hardware are also compatible. However, the gap between the frame and the sash must be large enough to accommodate the rod-shaped sensor.
In Schüco windows, a small magnet is attached to the locking pin in the sash frame to transmit the lock’s position to the sensor. For other window brands, this task is performed by a plastic adapter with a guide rail that is hooked into the locking pin. In both cases, the technology disappears into the frame and remains invisible when the window is closed. If internal installation is not possible due to space constraints, the system can still be mounted on the window frame, just like a conventional, battery-powered opening contact.
Compared to traditional door/window contacts, the wireless sensor adds a local alarm function: its integrated accelerometer detects vibrations during an attempted break-in and triggers an audible alert – completely independent of any connected smart home system. When paired with a Matter Controller featuring a Thread Border Router, advanced automations are possible, such as pausing heating when windows are opened for ventilation.

The sensor is powered by two standard 1.5-volt AAA batteries. It uses Thread as its wireless protocol, placing the company among a growing number of German B2B suppliers that support Matter over Thread. Following Maco, Siegenia, Warema, and most recently Wago, Schüco has now joined the list. The window sensor is designed for both factory installation and retrofitting of existing windows. It is on display at the Fensterbau Frontale trade fair in Nuremberg (March 24–27, 2026) and has already received its Matter certification. So it shouldn’t be long before it hits the market.
