Pergolas with Matter from Pergolux

A pergola provides shade when the sun is shining. It protects against drizzle and extends the living space outside in summer. On convenient models, the slatted roof can be adjusted by motor, often by radio and via an app from the manufacturer. Pergolux (link) goes one step further and offers its new S3 series with a Matter interface as standard.

The Norwegian-German company with headquarters in Fulda was founded in 2021. It specializes in pergolas and exports its slatted roofs to countries including Italy, France, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Brazil, Chile, Australia and the USA. All products are developed in Norway and are sold without intermediaries via online stores.

Pergolux S3 series with Matter over Thread

The motorized S3 series has a control unit that supports both Bluetooth and Thread. It can be operated via Bluetooth using the manufacturer’s own app. The Thread radio – in conjunction with a Border Router – is used for integration into Matter ecosystems such as Apple Home, Google Home or Samsung SmartThings.

In addition to the motor drive, customers can order their pergolas with additional equipment. For example, there are integrated LED strips for atmospheric lighting or infrared radiant heaters that can be switched on during cooler days. The control unit also passes these accessories on to Matter systems. It depends on the Matter ecosystem that takes over control what can be operated via the respective platform. The functions offered by Pergolux are:

  • Slat adjustment: opening, closing and gradual adjustment of the opening angle.
  • LED lighting: Switching on and off, brightness and color change (for RGB LEDs).
  • Infrared heat lamp: Switching on and off.
Accessories such as LED lighting and radiant heaters can also be controlled via Matter over Thread. Images: Pergolux
