Matter Wall Switches and Outlets at Budget Prices

Europe’s switch manufacturers are facing new competition. While many established brands on the continent are still assessing how to approach Matter, Chinese vendors are filling the gaps in the product range. A recent example is Sonoff (link). The brand of electronics manufacturer ITEAD Intelligent Systems, based in Shenzhen, introduced its Fusion switch series in fall 2025 at IFA in Berlin. The Matter-enabled products are now available in Europe.

As usual, they are sold through the company’s own online store and on Amazon, as Sonoff targets the do-it-yourself market. Professional installers and electrical wholesalers are not part of the intended audience. Pricing reflects that strategy: wall outlets, light switches, and shutter switches from the Fusion Orb line are priced at €20 each, while the dimmer costs €30. Comparable networked alternatives from European brands typically are two to three times more expensive – and are not Matter-certified.

Installation Products With Matter over Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is used as the wireless protocol. According to the manufacturer, electrical safety is designed to comply with European standards. Installation does not require an especially bulky wall box, as the switches have a mounting depth of just 21 millimeters, according to the datasheet. Sonoff uses the same Matter-enabled in-wall modules that it also offers for retrofitting conventional wall switches. In this case, the modules are directly attached to the control element, reducing the required space. Double and triple frames are available as accessories for seamless multi-gang installations of adjacent switches or outlets (see large image above).

As with all Matter devices, the exact feature set depends on the ecosystem in use. For example, not all smart home platforms currently display the power consumption readings from sockets. Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, and Google Home, for example, have not yet integrated the required software clusters from the Matter specification. This limitation applies to all Matter-enabled outlets with energy monitoring, not just Sonoff. Certain additional features – such as dimmer fade time or schedule configuration – are available only with the manufacturer’s eWeLink app. Anyone who wants to install firmware updates must also install the app. Sonoff does not currently support distribution via ecosystems, as practiced by Ikea, for example.
