HAOJAI: Wall Switches with Matter and Thread from China

To discover new products featuring the Matter standard, it is worth taking a look at China. In the technology hub of Shenzhen, for example, the company DK-AI (link) is based. Originally a distributor of building technology – from IoT products to KNX modules, home theater equipment, and air conditioning units – the company recently launched its own new brand: HAOJAI. The romanized spelling recalls the Cantonese expression for “good guy” or “trustworthy person,” suggesting technology that works reliably and without complications.

Smart Switches with Matter over Thread

Haojai has specialized in Matter and already offers several products using the Thread protocol, including tubular motors for blinds and a curtain drive. Its latest development is also entering a segment where there is still a shortage: wall switches with Matter over Thread.

Those who want to control lighting or other functions in the smart home via a Matter switch have had only a few options so far. In Europe, Jung and Smattex offer wireless buttons based on a Thread module from the German manufacturer Insta, Aqara has several models for flush mounting in its range. Internationally, alongside Aqara, the wired Eve Light Switch (link), the Tui Smart Button from Arre (link), and the Sense+ from Nanoleaf (link) with beta software are among the few exceptions.

The Haojai Smart Switch Comes in Three Versions

The newcomer from China has announced three models and begun selling them domestically. For now, the switches are only available in the local 86 × 86 millimeter format. Suitable versions for the EU and US markets are under development, according to the manufacturer.

  • HAOJAI Smart Switch wireless. The battery-powered version (pictured above, center) features six buttons that can be programmed individually – for single press, double press, and long press. It can be placed anywhere independently of the electrical installation and controls Matter products or scenes at the touch of a button. Power for operation is supplied by two lithium coin cells (CR2032).
  • HAOJAI Smart Switch wired (6 buttons). Designed for flush-mounted installation, this model has three relays capable of switching up to 300 watts. It also includes a radar sensor that activates the key illumination when approached in the dark and should also be usable for automation. By default, buttons 1 to 3 are directly assigned to the relays and thus control, for example, room lighting. The assignment can be disconnected – or restored – at any time using a special key combination. The relays remain addressable in the disconnected state – for instance through automations or a Matter platform app.
  • HAOJAI Smart Switch wired (3 buttons). With half the control surface (pictured above, right), this version is technically identical to the six-button model but provides only three programmable buttons.

All three switches are certified for the latest Matter version 1.4 and are based on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF54L15 Thread chip. They operate without a cloud service or a dedicated app and are designed to receive software updates through connected Matter platforms. Haojai developed the products in-house, manufactures them in China, and offers the glass-front switches in three color options: white, gold, and gray. However, other versions are also available for B2B customers and bulk buyers, according to Shenzhen.
