The wait is over: Polish manufacturer Tedee (link) is delivering on its promise and enabling Matter over Thread on its GO series smart locks. The company had first announced this step in July 2023 but postponed it several times – “to ensure a stable, future-proof, and fully integrated solution,” according to Tedee. As a result, the role of pioneer and first mover went to others. Meanwhile, several vendors introduced door lock drives with Matter support. Now, however, owners of GO products can benefit from a free software update.
Available for Tedee GO, GO2 and GO2 Aluminium
The update applies to the Tedee GO, Tedee GO2, and Tedee GO2 Aluminium models, which are now being prepared for the cross-vendor smart home standard. The rollout will take place in stages: in the first wave, around 20 percent of users will receive access, according to the manufacturer. The remaining users will follow shortly thereafter, with the full rollout expected to be completed by the end of February 2026. The new firmware will either be delivered automatically or can be installed manually via the Tedee app.
Installation requires the latest firmware version on the smart lock and a Thread Border Router installed in the home to establish the connection to Matter platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings. Owners of Tedee smart locks can now also integrate them into Apple Home. Previously, control was only possible with Siri via so-called shortcuts. The previous cloud-based connections to Amazon Alexa and Google are also no longer necessary. Matter’s local approach makes this possible.
