Eve Systems Introduces Energy Reporting with Matter

The Eve Energy is among the first smart plugs on the market to report the power consumption of connected devices using the Matter standard. The transmission of energy data was introduced alongside energy management in Matter 1.3. A free software update now brings this functionality to the Eve Energy smart plug.

New Eve Energy software supports Matter 1.3

Eve Systems (link) has started rolling out software version 3.5.0. Although the official release notes on the manufacturer’s website (link) don’t mention it yet, Matter platforms like Apple Home and Home Assistant already offer the update for download – provided an Eve Energy device is present on the network. After installation, the smart plug reports new information to Matter-based systems: the current power usage of a connected device in watts, voltage in volts, current in amps, and total energy consumption in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Not every ecosystem currently supports these new data points. For instance, Apple Home doesn’t yet process energy data. Apple users still need to use the Eve app to view their energy usage. The app is now available not just for iOS, but also for Android. In contrast, Home Assistant (link) displays the data and allows users to incorporate it into automations or dashboards. Eve Energy is also certified under the “Works with Home Assistant” program.
