Bosch Bewegungsmelder II [+M]

Bosch: Motion Sensor [+M] with Orientation Light

Just in time for the IFA electronics fair in Berlin, Bosch Smart Home is expanding its Matter lineup. The new addition is the Motion Sensor II [+M] (link, in German), which – like all products in the [+M] series – works both with Matter systems and Bosch’s own smart home controller. A radio module, supporting either the Thread protocol or Zigbee, makes this possible. The range was presented at the IFA in 2024 and already includes a radiator thermostat, a door/window contact, and a smart plug that transmits energy data via Matter.

Weatherproof Sensor with Multiple Extra Features

The sensor detects motion within a range of up to 43 feet (13 meters) and meets professional security standards with its EN Grade 2 certification. A small pet filter ensures that pets up to 31 inches (80 cm) tall do not trigger false alarms. A special feature is the integrated orientation light, which automatically turns on when motion is detected and switches off 30 seconds after the last detection.

The device is weatherproof with an IP55 rating, making it suitable for outdoor use. Installation can be done either with screws or the included adhesive, allowing flexible placement on walls, in corners, or freestanding. Additional integrated sensors for temperature, vibration, and brightness open up a wide range of automation options – from smart heating control to automated shading.

Integration Determines Functionality

As usual for [+M] series devices, integration into the Bosch smart home system provides additional convenience. Settings such as motion sensor sensitivity or brightness thresholds can only be configured there via the Bosch app. Features like automatic lighting when motion is detected or an alarm system are preconfigured in the system and can be activated with just a few clicks.

In thread mode, only the motion sensor and light functions are available. Temperature and brightness measurements are not transferred to Matter. An overview table from the manufacturer shows the differences (see above). The Motion Detector II [+M] is now available in Germany. Other European countries in which Bosch also offers its smart home products are likely to follow.
