Atios KNX Bridge: Swiss-Made Integration of Matter

With its KNX bridge, Atios (link) positions itself among the professional vendors who are making Matter usable as a connectivity layer in building automation. Designed for DIN rail mounting, the Matter Bridge connects conventional KNX installations to Matter platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, or Home Assistant.

This enables control of KNX building technology through the respective ecosystem apps. The bridge supports the most common Matter device types, including lights, switches, blinds, thermostats, and sensors (link), with a maximum of 200 exposed devices.

Built-in KNX IP and DALI Gateway

But the device offers even more: It also functions as a KNX IP gateway for configuring the KNX bus via PC. So installers can use their ETS software to program KNX devices. Currently, this works locally over the network; according to the manufacturer, remote access over the internet is in development.

Additionally, Atios – based in the Swiss canton of Uri – has integrated a gateway for the DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) standard. It connects DALI lighting systems to KNX and can optionally expose them to Matter as well. In that sense, it acts as a dual bridge. Competing products such as the KNX Server from 1home or its counterpart from Elsner Elektronik do not offer this feature. However, unlike those solutions, the Atios KNX Bridge does not function as a Matter Controller. This means that it cannot commission Matter devices itself or make them controllable from the KNX side.
