The K11+ and S20 robot vacuums will be shipped with Matter 1.4 right from the start. This was announced by the manufacturer SwitchBot in a press release (link). The company had already unveiled the two new household robots in its shop before the IFA electronics trade show in Berlin, but without making any specific statements about their compatibility with the Matter standard.
Matter 1.4 for Targeted Cleaning of Rooms
Support for the current Matter version is particularly interesting for Apple Home users, as it enables sector cleaning. Since Matter 1.4, it has been possible to send a cleaning robot to predefined rooms or zones – and Apple Home is one of the first smart home platforms to make use of this feature. In the Home app on the iPhone or iPad, “rooms” can be selected and defined as cleaning targets. Other robot vacuum manufacturers, such as Roborock, also support the so-called service area clusters.

Matter over Wi-Fi for Easy Connection
With the K11+ and S20, Switchbot is underscoring its Matter ambitions in the rapidly growing market for household robots. Both models use the home Wi-Fi network for connection (Matter over Wi-Fi) and therefore require neither a hub nor a Thread Border Router. The K11+ is a particularly small and maneuverable vacuum cleaner whose compact suction station requires no more space than a sheet of A4 paper. The S20 (large image at the top) combines vacuuming and mopping functions with a special roller mop system that continuously scrubs and rinses the mop during operation. This ensures that the roller used for cleaning is as neat as possible.
