Electrically operated roller shutters are still far from standard. While they are more common in new builds, manual operation is typically required in existing homes. However, the existing belt winders can be replaced with motorized versions. Rademacher (link) now offers models for this purpose that support the Matter standard.
The new Universal Smart Belt Winder is versatile: it can be used either as a built-in unit for flush mounting in an existing wall box or as a surface-mounted model. In the first case, the winder is recessed into the wall using a cover plate, with the controls facing forward. For surface mounting, a swivel bracket is included, into which the model is hung – rotated 90 degrees upward. In this case, the control panel faces toward the top. In both operating modes, the strap can be either narrow (15 mm) or wide (23 mm).
Two Wireless Protocols for Flexible Use
The series is also called “Universal” because it supports both Rademacher’s proprietary wireless standard (DuoFern) and Matter over Thread. Simultaneous operation of both protocols is also possible. This allows the belt winder to respond to the manufacturer’s remote controls while also being controlled via Matter platforms. As with all Thread devices, an installed Border Router is required for operation.
Power is supplied via a cable with an integrated plug-in power adapter. The device features buttons on the housing for manual operation (up/down) and for setting the end positions during movement. In addition, two favorite positions can be saved and recalled at the push of a button.
