Meross Expands Into Matter over Thread

The Chinese manufacturer Meross (link) has so far focused primarily on Wi-Fi for its Matter-compatible products. The new MS605 presence sensor, however, uses Matter over Thread. As with Aqara’s recently released FP300, the energy-efficient Thread protocol enables battery-powered, wireless operation. According to the company, the included CR123A lithium cell should last up to three years before needing replacement. Development took place in close collaboration with chipmaker Nordic Semiconductor, which is meant to provide particularly stable connections and short response times.

Radar and Infrared Detection Plus Ambient Light Sensor

As in Meross’s wired Wi-Fi model MS600, a combination of sensing technologies is used. The MS605 employs radio waves to detect micro-movements such as breathing. An integrated infrared sensor responds to body heat and also acts as a filter so that a moving curtain or a vacuum robot in operation does not trigger an alert. A brightness sensor is also included.

Meross highlights virtual sensor mapping as a special feature. In the manufacturer’s app, the monitoring area can be divided into three zones, each appearing as an individual sensor on connected Matter platforms. But there are exceptions: SmartThings, for example, does not support this multi-sensor capability, according to Meross.

A fold-out stand allows flexible positioning for both tabletop and wall mounting. The MS605 is rated IP67 for water resistance and suitable for temperatures between –20 °C (–4 °F) and +60 °C (140 °F). It can be pre-ordered on the manufacturer’s website (link) and is scheduled for release at the end of December 2025.
