Rademacher SmartHome Box and HomePilot Premium Gateway from Delta Dore Rademacher

Matter Update for Rademacher Box and HomePilot

The Matter era is dawning at Delta Dore. A software update will teach the company’s smart home hubs to speak the cross-manufacturer language. Their corresponding apps for Android and iOS have already been updated, announcing in the release notes an update for the German-made Rademacher SmartHome Box (link) and the similarly constructed HomePilot Gateway Premium (link). The release was planned for summer 2025 and should now be imminent. Depending on the perspective, summer ends on August 31 (meteorologically) or September 22 (calendar-wise).

With software versions 5.9 (Rademacher) and 1.2 (Home Pilot), the control centers become a Matter Bridge. Both products translate the in-house DuoFern wireless standard into the Matter protocol. As a result, DuoFern devices such as belt winders, roller shutter motors, or switching actuators can be controlled via Matter-compatible systems and voice assistants for the first time – without any extra purchases or hardware replacements. In a first step, devices in the categories of sun protection, switches, and lighting will be transferred to Matter Controllers. Others are to follow.

Two Brands, One Smart Home Ecosystem

From a technical standpoint, the Rademacher Box and the HomePilot Gateway are largely compatible control centers. Products from both brands can even be registered on each other’s gateways. The distinction lies in market positioning: the long-established Rademacher brand targets professional installers, while HomePilot is aimed at end consumers. Both products are developed and distributed by Delta Dore Rademacher GmbH, a company formed in 2021 following the acquisition of German manufacturer Rademacher by the French Delta Dore Group (link).

Matter integration is available for both platforms simultaneously. Differences mainly lie in branding and user guidance – for instance, in menu navigation or accompanying documentation.

Activating the Matter Bridge in the Menu

After the update, the gateways will take on the role of a Matter Bridge if desired. They function similarly to well-known solutions from Philips Hue, SwitchBot, or Wibutler: individual non-Matter devices – in this case, DuoFern components – are connected to Matter systems through the hub. They appear as native Matter devices and can be remotely controlled via a Matter Controller.

In the official instructions from Rademacher (link) and HomePilot (link), Apple Home is the only example listed. But thanks to Matter, the same principle also works with other platforms like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, or Samsung SmartThings. Activation is handled via the gateway’s app. Once the firmware update is installed, Matter can be enabled in the menu. A setup code is automatically generated and then scanned using the target system’s app. Users or installers simply select which devices should be made available to Matter.
