Matter-Enabled Dimmer Module From BOBY, Germany

With the BOBY Dim Module (link), a smart retrofit solution from Germany enters the market. The compact module is installed between the power supply and LED lighting such as light strips or low-voltage fixtures, enabling seamless integration into smart home environments.

The module from the manufacturer of the same name is a single-channel LED dimmer that is connected between the power supply and the LED fixture. It connects via Wi-Fi in the 2.4 GHz band to the home network and uses Matter over Wi-Fi. This makes the dimmer compatible with all Matter-enabled smart home platforms. It can be integrated into systems such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, or SmartThings without a bridge or additional accessories.

Easily Retrofit Matter for Low-Voltage LEDs

The input voltage is either 12 or 24 volts DC. At 12 volts, the maximum power output is around 50 watts; at 24 volts, up to 100 watts are possible (maximum current: 4 amperes). The module is developed and manufactured in Germany. Marco Friedrich, formerly an applications engineer at Osram, usually plans and manages large-scale lighting projects with his company Li-Ex GmbH in Regensburg. For Boby, he founded another company that specializes in smart home solutions.

With the Boby Dim Module, he fills a gap in the market: existing LED strips with a power supply or other low-voltage LEDs can be retrofitted without the need for additional gateways. The omission of 230-volt technology makes the product attractive not only to professional integrators. Tech-savvy private users can also easily use it, as long as their work is limited to the secondary side of the power supply – where the low voltage is present and poses no danger.
