Shades with gateway from Hunter Douglas

Hunter Douglas Shades Now Support Matter

The Dutch-American manufacturer Hunter Douglas (link) has announced that its PowerView smart home platform now supports the Matter standard (link). The update applies to Bluetooth-based Gen 3 systems, which can now be integrated into Matter-enabled ecosystems such as Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa.

Matter Integration for PowerView Gen 3

To connect to Matter, users need a PowerView Gen 3 system along with one of two gateways: either the PowerView Gen 3 Gateway or the PowerView Gen 3 Gateway Pro. The standard version (non-Pro) supports up to 15 shading devices and operates on both 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The Pro model adds an Ethernet port, Power over Ethernet (PoE), and can control up to 30 devices – ideal for larger homes or office installations.

Setup is done via the PowerView app, available for iOS and Android. The gateway should be placed centrally in the home so that motorized window coverings can connect to it via Bluetooth. Once paired, it functions as a Matter Bridge, linking the Bluetooth devices to the IP-based network. Hunter Douglas’s RemoteConnect cloud service remains available but requires one of the two gateways. According to the company, the following prerequisites apply:

  • The PowerView App version 3.12.1 or higher
  • A PowerView Gateway or Gateway Pro running at least firmware version 3.2.46
  • A Matter Controller such as Apple HomePod or Google Nest Hub

By adding Matter support, Hunter Douglas joins a growing list of manufacturers adopting the universal smart home standard. Matter enables cross-brand interoperability and local control without proprietary platforms – making integration with third-party systems much easier for PowerView users.
