First PC Keyboard with Matter Support from Thirdreality

Thirdreality has officially launched sales of its Smart Mechanical Keyboard MK1 (link). According to the company, it’s the world’s first Matter-certified keyboard, enabling wireless integration with compatible smart home systems. It uses the local Wi-Fi network (Matter over Wi-Fi) to remotely trigger actions.

12 Keys for Wireless Matter Commands

The keyboard’s twelve function keys (F1–F12) can be assigned to individual devices or entire scenes on a connected Matter platform. An additional key with the Matter logo acts as a trigger when pressed in combination with a function key. The exact behavior depends on the target platform. In Apple Home, for example, the F-keys can be assigned multiple actions based on short, long, or double presses. However, the smart home platform in use must support Matter buttons in general. Thirdreality lists Apple Home, SmartThings, and Home Assistant as examples.

USB Connection for PC Use

As a classic mechanical PC keyboard, the MK1 is primarily designed for desktop use. It requires a USB-A port for connection to a computer and power – or at least a USB power adapter if used without a PC. The integrated RGB backlighting supports 44 light effects but can only be configured via USB on a computer; lighting effects are currently not accessible through Matter.

The Smart Mechanical Keyboard MK1 is now available through Thirdreality’s global online store (link) and on Amazon in the United States.
